Faisal - this is Narayana Murthy's speech at Stern School, NY university - you can find it on the Net.

Nikhil, thanks for putting this up. Also the quote on top - of course Gandhi's exact aords were: "You must be the change you want to see in the world". For Murthy's life another of Gandhi's quotes rings true: "Find purpose, the means will follow" - see, for instance Sudha Murthy's (Narayana Murhty's wife) pieceat: http://www.scribd.com/doc/7357732/Love-at-Infosys-Story-of-Narayan-and-Sudha-Murty?__cache_revision=1230315207&__user_id=-1&enable_docview_caching=1

However I am intrigued that she spells his name as Murty and so I am wondering if this is indeed her writing. However I can say that the humility of the man is as she describes. He used to often take the company bus to work in the morning when Infosys had already become an US$ 800 mn company (I used to live in the same suburb).

Cheers

It's a very good post, but the right margin seems to chop off the text, so I couldn't read it properly... I'm using IE7 on Win XP.

Great post Nikhil...One of the things I find lacking in other leadership blogs is the exposure to leaders I haven't heard/read about. It seems everyone picksthe same old executives I see in Inc. and Fast Company, Fortune and Forbes.

Thanks for introducing me to the work of NR NarayanaMurthy.

I look forward to more Sharpening the Saw!
